Chicago Sigmas honored as Chicago Defenders 2012 Men of Excellence

Brother Dr. Joseph West, of Upsilon Sigma Chapter of Chicago, was initiated spring 1992 at the
Epsilon Xi Chapter at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. Dr. West is the immediate past International Director of Social Action. A social epidemiologist, his research focuses on diabetes, men’s health and human development. He is the author of the memoir Trod the Stony Road: A Young Man’s Journey from Mississippi to the Charles. Dr. West is the Program Director at the Sinai Urban Health Institute at Sinai Heath Systems and Adjunct Professor at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
Brother Dexter Green, a member of Iota Nu Sigma Chapter of Chicago, was initiated fall 1987 at Zeta Upsilon chapter at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Dexter is employed by Allstate Insurance Company as a Risk Management Leader. He has over 19 years of corporate experience. While maintaining an active role in Iota Nu Sigma chapter, Brother Greene is involved with a number of other organizations. He is currently serving his second term as President of Allstate’s African American Working Network Employee Resource Group. In addition to an active professional career and community involvement, Dexter is the Founder and CEO of De’gleo Photography.
Both of these brothers deserve to be honored by such a prestigious organization for their hard work. They embody the principles of Phi Beta Sigma and keep the flame of Greatness of our region lit by representing Sigma and the Great Lakes Region well.
The Chicago Defender Men of Excellence recognizes Chicago-Area men who represent excellence in
